How to write a matrimony profile your family will trust
Your profile is the first thing a possible match, and often their family, will see. A clear and honest profile gets more replies, and better ones. Here is how to fill in each part.
1. Photos
- Use a recent photo as your main one, with your face clearly visible: daylight, no sunglasses, no heavy filters.
- Add a full-length photo and one from your everyday life: at work, at a festival, in your fields or your village. It helps people see who you are.
- Avoid a group photo as the main one. Nobody should have to guess which person is you.
- Only use photos of yourself. A photo of someone else is against our Community Guidelines.
2. Your community details
Choose your tribe, sub-tribe, clan and surname from the lists in the app. These matter: in many communities the clan decides who can marry whom, and families look for these details first. Getting them right saves both families time.
If you are not sure of your clan's name or how it is written, ask an elder in your family before you fill it in. Add your state and district too. Your daily shortlist is picked for your tribe, state and preferences.
3. A few lines about you
Write in your own words, in Hindi or English, whichever is easier. Four or five lines are enough. Cover:
- What you do, and your education.
- Your family: parents, brothers and sisters, and who you live with.
- Where you live, and whether you would move after marriage.
- What matters to you in life and in a partner.
An example
"I teach at a government primary school in Mandla district. I live with my parents and my younger brother. On holidays I help on our farm and play cricket. I am looking for someone kind and hard-working who wants to stay close to family."
Leave these out
- Your phone number, social media accounts or home address.
- Demands about dowry, skin colour or money.
- Text copied from someone else's profile.
4. Partner preferences
Set what truly matters to you and your family, and keep the age range and distance wide enough to see a good number of people. You can change them any time.
On the free plan you can search by state and tribe. Premium adds finer choices: district, sub-tribe, clan, surname, education and job.
5. Finish and get verified
- At 80% complete you can answer the interests people send you. At 100% you get the Profile complete badge.
- Then get verified for free with a government ID and your caste certificate. Only verified members can chat. Read how verification works and our caste certificate guide.
- Keep your profile up to date. A new job, a move or new photos all help people see you as you are now.
Quick checklist
- A clear, recent photo of your face, plus one full-length photo
- Tribe, sub-tribe, clan and surname checked with family
- State and district added
- Four or five honest lines about you, with no phone number
- Partner preferences set, not too narrow
